The purpose that prepares us for Pentecost

Last Sunday (5), Bishop Edir Macedo led a special meeting at the Temple of Solomon, which marked the beginning of a purpose of faith for the next 50 days. The proposal, which combines spirituality and daily practice, is based on the 40 days when the risen Lord Jesus remained with His disciples until the arrival of Pentecost, which this year will be celebrated on May 24.

How to Proceed

During the meeting, the Bishop emphasized that the purpose is not merely symbolic, but a practical attitude of faith. The guidance is clear: every day, in the morning, before leaving home, each person should anoint their own head with oil, presenting to God the request for the promise of the Father — the Holy Spirit.

Furthermore, he reinforced that this search must begin individually. That is, before thinking about others, it is necessary to care for one's own spiritual life.

The Spiritual Meaning of the Purpose

In explaining the biblical foundation, the Bishop recalled the experience of the disciples after Jesus' resurrection. At that time, about 500 people heard the instruction to wait for the promise. However, only 120 remained steadfast to the end — and it was precisely these who received the Holy Spirit.

From this, he made a warning: not all who begin persist, but those who persevere experience the promise.

Therefore, the purpose of the 50 days represents more than a count on the calendar — it is a journey of perseverance, faith, and decision.

The Holy Spirit: Constant Presence

Another point emphasized was the difference between having God by your side and having Him within you. According to the message, while Jesus was on Earth, He walked alongside His disciples. However, after His ascension, He sent the Comforter to dwell within those who believe.

In this way, this presence eliminates fear, strengthens faith, and gives direction in every moment — whether at home, at work, or anywhere else.

Unity of Faith Around the World

The purpose is not limited to a specific denomination. The call is for all who are part of the Christian faith, regardless of which church they attend.

"All in one faith, one spirit and one heart," he emphasized, reinforcing the importance of spiritual unity during this period.

More Than Emotion, a Decision

During the meeting, a testimony was also presented from a person who participated in the "Family at the Foot of the Cross" event at the Maracanã, who sought the Holy Spirit for years until understanding that it was not about emotion, but about complete surrender.

An Invitation to Practice Faith

Given this, the purpose stands as an open invitation: whoever believes, practices; whoever desires, perseveres.

Over these 50 days, the proposal is simple — seek daily, with faith and discipline, the presence of the Holy Spirit.

More than just remembering Pentecost, the proposal is to live it in practice, allowing each person to experience, in a real way, the transformation that comes from above.
